This is an extensive series in regards to the current topic in America about how America should deal with the thousands of Syrian Refugees. Sadly like so many issues there seems to be by many Americans the swinging of the pendulum to to the far left and far right. The extremists on one side say the only humanitarian thing to do is take as many refugees as we possibly can, even Christians are saying this. The extremists on the other side are saying we should not take Syrian Refugees whatsoever and we should shut down mosques and make all Muslims register. Many of them are Christians. One side appears to care more about the safety of the refugees than Americans and the other side appears to care for only specific groups of Americans. Both sides are missing the mark. We need to have a biblical perspective on this issue. It is clear we are to show compassion on the hopeless. It is also clear that we should use wisdom and not be foolish. So what is the solution? Before we get to the solution we need to look at the challenges. This series is my attempt to look at the challenges and the solutions in a reasonable, balanced manner coming from a Christian perspective. Refugees in America-Part One
This series is in regards to refugees coming into America. It is going to address the biblical principles of how Christians should respond to refugees coming into America. I promise that this will be a balanced approach to this topic. Extreme liberals (just mentioning Christian and Bible makes them uncomfortable) and extreme conservatives most likely will be challenged. Extreme religious right, many of whom operate out of fear instead of out of the character of Christ, will be challenged. They will not like the facts but hopefully they will embrace the principles found in Scripture. (To read a summary of this entire series, click here.) What Should Christians Not Do?
I should mention again this series is not in regards to specifically Syrian Refugees. I have an entire series on that topic. Again, all Americans should have some concerns regarding refugees coming from countries that have Islamic terrorists. Based upon statistics since 2002, there is a .0009% chance of a terrorist-related arrest or attack that leads to the loss of life from a Muslim refugee. Of course that can change any time. What Should Christians Do?
For any Christian reading this article they should already know what to do-Do what Jesus would do. How does that look? Well, here are some ideas. (If you have not read our article titled “What Christians Should Not Do”, check it out.) Continue reading “Christians and Refugees Coming into America-Part Three” »

Valid Concerns-Balanced Approach
Many Americans and Christian Americans have valid concerns regarding refugees coming into America. I will address these legitimate concerns and at the same time hopefully bring balance. I will not be addressing the specific Syrian Refugee situation because I have written several articles on that topic. Also for the sake of keeping this article shorter than longer, I am not going to share all the Scriptures and principles I share in the Syrian Refugee Series. I would highly recommend reading the entire series to get a full understanding of what Scripture has to say about foreigners in the land. Christians and Refugees Coming into America-Summary
We have written four articles regarding refugees coming into America and the Christian response. We have specifically addressed the concern of Muslim refugees coming into America. We have tried to take a balanced approach regarding this topic. Here is a summary of this series. Continue reading “Christians and Refugees Coming into America-Summary” »
Syrian Refugees-What Should Americans Do
Lately the Internet, the news channels, TV, radio, Christians, Muslims, others have been talking about what to do with the thousands of Syrian refugees. There have been very heated discussions. At times, the discussions have been very uncaring and what appears to be heartless. At other times the discussions seem to ignore the real danger of ISIS infiltrating Syrian refugee camps. Sadly many times there has not been a balanced approach to this issue. Many put blinders on the the real dangers and others express nothing but fear. To top it off individuals whether they are Christians or not are going to the Bible, mainly to the Old Testament, to defend their position-mostly those supporting no limitation or exceptions for Syrian refugees to enter the U.S. Continue reading “Syrian Refugees-What Should Americans Do? Who Sought Refuge as Recorded in the Bible
There are a group of people who make notation of people in the Bible who sought refuge and this in their minds shows why Americans should accept all Syrian refugees into America. The problem is they are not looking at this passages in context. So, let’s look at them in context and see what conclusion we came up with after sincere study.
This is a brief run-through of some of the people in the Bible (there are many more) who took refuge, sought asylum, or migrated for other reasons, including being sent into exile, escaping natural disaster or famine, fleeing from political strife, violence, or persecution, etc: Continue reading “Syrian Refugees-What Should Americans Do? Show Mercy, Justice, Love to the Foreigner
Have Mercy on Your Neighbor
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:29-37)
We are to show mercy, compassion, and love to people who are not like us. We should stand in the gap for others.
We should do all we can to show mercy, compassion, and love to Syrian refugees. But again nothing in the verse says we must bring them all into the U.S. as refugees. There are multitudes of other ways to show compassion and we should reach out to them to the fullest extent. Continue reading “Syrian Refugees-What Should Americans Do? Part Two-Bible Verses” »
Syrian Refugees-What Should Americans Do? Part Three-The Bible
Support Those Who Are Oppressed or In a Bad Situation
Support Those Who Fall Into Poverty
If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and cannot support himself, support him as you would a foreigner or a temporary resident and allow him to live with you. Do not charge interest or make a profit at his expense. Instead, show your fear of God by letting him live with you as your relative. (Lev 25:35-36)
The context is in regards to specifically Israelites and those who fall into poverty. You are to do whatever you can to help them and not take advantage of them. You should allow an Israelite to live with you as you would a foreigner. However, no Jew was to allow an idolatry or a pagan to live with them. Never.
When Christian brother or sister is in poverty you should do all you can to help them. Even take them into your home if feasible. Just like you should do for a foreigner. So this is one of the few verses it would appear it is saying to take into America Syrian refugees. BUT, if taken literally your main focus should be Christian Syrian refugees and certainly not those who follow a false religion. Continue reading “Syrian Refugees-What Should Americans Do?
