Spiritual Nuggets

Spiritual Nuggets

spiritual-nuggetsTen years ago, when the Internet had just started becoming popular, I made the decision to find ways to make use of the Internet to spread the Gospel, provide hope to the hopeless, and to help Christians to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. (So it only makes sense that I would start a Christian Blog Site for Christians when the concept of blogs hit the Internet.)

To fulfill my desire to help Christians to grow I created a Spiritual Nuggets subscriber service, this was in the early stages of the Internet. We had many email subscribers and I would receive emails or phone calls from people around the U.S. thanking us for the Spiritual Nuggets. Over the years we have had people who found our old archives on the web and said that the Spiritual Nuggets helped them tremendously.

I thought it would be good to start posting the archived (over 100) Spiritual Nuggets into our new blog. So each day we will post a Nugget from the past. God’s Word and the principles of Scripture are never outdated.

Conviction-Repentance-Favor of God

Today’s message at Seattle Open Door Church>The Book of Jonah has an interesting storyline. Too many who read the book of Jonah get focused on Jonah and forget about the other people in the story. For example what about the sailors in the story? There is a storm and they cry out to their gods and there is no relief. So they seek answers. it is revealed to them that Jonah is the cause of the story. The sailors call out to God, offer a sacrifice to God and made vows to God. The God of Jonah. They are led to throw Jonah out of the boat and the storm leaves. They are convicted that their gods have no power (conviction), they cry out to the God of Israel,  make sacrifices and vow to Him (repentance), and the storm ends (they find favor with God). Jonah 1:9-16

Jonah ends up in Nineveh and preaches a message of judgment upon Nineveh. Nineveh is convicted and starts fasting praying and repenting. God turns from His judgment of Nineveh. Once again we see conviction, repentance, favor of God. Jonah 3:5-10 Continue reading “Conviction-Repentance-Favor of God” »

My Story
I grew up in a home where there was not outward expression of love or words of praise. My father showed his love by making sure on our birthdays and Christmas that we always had gifts. As I grew up, instead of seeing it was his way of showing love, I always felt that he did not love me because he never hugged me or said he was proud of me. Another way my father showed his love (I did not realize this until writing this nugget) was by always including my brother and I on special vacations and trips-in other words, giving us his time.

Love Languages-Part Five Receiving and Giving Love

Love Languages-Part Five
Receiving and Giving Love

In his book, The Five Love Languages, Gary Chapman describes that are basically five ways people express or receive love. Love is expressed by:

Receiving Love
For most of us we interpret love based upon the love language we use to give love. The problem with this is that there are four other love languages of showing love. How many times has someone shared their love with you, but you did not see it as love, or you refused to receive it as love. I bet many more times than you think. How have you hurt someone because you did not receive their love to you?

Love Languages-Part Four Receiving God’s Love

Love Languages-Part Four
Receiving God’s Love

In his book, The Five Love Languages, Gary Chapman describes that are basically five ways people express or receive love. Love is expressed by:
Words of Appreciation
Acts of Service
Gift Giving
Quality Time
Physical Touch

In the previous nugget we talked about how God expresses His love through the various love languages listed above. For many of us there are times that we wonder if God loves us or if He is with us. This normally occurs when we are going through a rough time. Or maybe we have fallen into sin and not sure if God forgives us. During these times it makes sense that we may not feel as if God loves us (even though nothing can separate us from His love). However, maybe some times we do not experience God’s love because we only interpret love in one language when He offers love in at least five languages. As we learn to receive God’s love through all the five languages we will be able to receive love in a greater way from others. We will also be more able to share love with others. Love Languages-Part One Introduction

Love Languages-Part One
Introduction

In the next several nuggets we will be speaking on the topic of love. This set of nuggets will be on the topic of Love Languages. The concept of Love Languages is from the book The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.

The concept of this set of nuggets came about as I was thinking of how we each have different ways of receiving and expressing love. I then started meditating on how we express our love to God and how He expresses His love to us. These nuggets will give each of us a greater understanding of how to love others and God. They will also help us to be able to receive love.
