Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit
Isn’t it interesting that Apostle Paul uses such a contrast. Instead of being drink with wine, be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is as if they are being seen as opposites. Drunk with or ‘drunk’ with the Holy Spirit. In other words be overcome with the Holy Spirit. He was speaking to Christians who obviously were born again and thus had the Holy Spirit living in them. Thus there must be the ability to have more of the Holy Spirit. To have an abundance of the Holy Spirit.
It appears that Apostle Paul is commanding to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus commanded His disciples, more than just the Apostles, to wait in Jerusalem to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. They were already born again because in John 20:22 Jesus breathed upon and said , “Receive the Holy Spirit”. So Jesus and Apostle Paul speaks of, commands, to be filled with the Holy Spirit. That should challenge us to ask “Are we filled, baptized with the Holy Spirit?”
Many ask why do I need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit? The direct answer would be because Jesus says you need to be. That honestly should be enough of a reason. But to be practical it is because it is called the Gift of God, we should receive every gift God offers. Being Filled with the Holy Spirit gives us the power to share the Gospel with freedom, boldness, and courage, we can be used in the Gifts of the Spirit, to walk in greater holiness, and so that we may be built up.
So, why not be Baptized in the Holy Spirit? So why not be filled with the Holy Spirit?
