Abortion-Health/Life of the Mother
In invariably when the topic of abortion is brought up, the health of the mother is brought up. It always down the path of “abortion should be allowed up to nine months when the health of the mother is at risk”. Who could argue against that point. Well, if abortion was the only means to protect the health of the mother, one could not argue against this exception for abortion. But there are three factors to look at. One is how many abortions are done to save the life of the mother. Two, is what is the definition of health of the mother. Three, is abortion the only safe way to preserve the health and life of the mother?
Abortions to Save Mother’s Life
It is an extremely rare case when abortion is required to save the mother’s life. Of course, when two lives are threatened and only one can be saved, doctors must always save that life.
While he was United States Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop stated publicly that in his thirty-eight years as a pediatric surgeon, he was never aware of a single situation in which a freeborn child’s life had to be taken in order to save the life of the mother.
“Today it is possible for almost any patient to be brought through pregnancy alive, unless she suffers from a fatal illness such as cancer or leukemia, and, if so, abortion would be unlikely to prolong, much less save, life.” Dr. Alan Guttmacher of Planned Parenthood.
The Truth is less than 1 percent of all abortions are performed to save the mother’s life.
Health of the Mother
So rarely does an abortion need to be done to save the life of a mother. What about the health of the mother? Why that can open up a can of worms. If we are talking about the physical health of the mother it is about 2%. So if we add life and health of the mother, then only 3% of abortions are done for that purpose.
It should be mentioned that in order to create an atmosphere for abortion to be okay in regards to the life and health of the mother, there is a movement to define health of the mother to include physical health but to include:
age, economic, social and emotional factors. When one includes these factors, it is clearly not about physical health (other than if older in age).
Abortion Only Option?
Is abortion the only option to protect the life and health of the mother. Well, if economic, social, and emotional factors are being considered, which they should not be under the definition of ‘health’, then it should be clear that there are other options than abortion. Financial assistance, adoption, relocation, counseling, etc. would remove the need of an abortion.
In regards to saving the life of a mother, here are some facts. Late term abortions in 2nd and 3rd trimester will not save the life of a woman. Emergency cesarean is the gold standard for safely terminating a pregnancy to save the mother and can be done in 2-3 minutes . Abortion at this stage literally increases mortality (takes about an hour) for a woman and would therefore delay emergency medical care! Second a terminally ill child can also be safely delivered through cesarean. Abortion is violent and very painful. A terminally ill child can be delivered and placed on comfort care. The baby will be given dignity and pain relief if his condition is incompatible with life and death is imminent.
Dr. Omar Hamada, OB/GYN
It is clear there is no need for an abortion to protect the life and health of the mother.
If you are considering an abortion for the sake of your health or life, I plead with you to see a doctor first, before an abortionist who makes money doing abortions. Your health and life matters. If you are wanting to get an abortion for other reasons, be honest with yourself. I understand there may be some very strong reasons why you are considering an abortion. Understandable reasons. But your decision has eternal consequences. Please give a call 24/7 at 1-866-926-8463. 1-866-WANTGOD. We have people to listen to your story.
If you have had an abortion this must be very hard for you to read. You may have guilt, shame, condemnation, and believe God hates you. I want to assure you that is not the case. He instead wants to comfort you. Please give a call 24/7 at 1-866-926-8463. 1-866-WANTGOD. We have people to encourage you.
I judge no one who has obtained an abortion. I had my own child aborted.
