Light Confronts Darkness
Has anybody ever been in a dark room trying to see? Or maybe in a cave with no light? Most of us have driven when it is totally dark outside. In these situations do we embrace the darkness? Do we try to appease the darkness? Do we say to the darkness, “It’s okay that you are stopping me from seeing”? Of course not! When we enter a realm of darkness we CONFRONT the darkness. We expose it with light. We don’t use a flicker of light. We use a flashlight, a lantern, headlights, maybe even a large spotlight. We do not apologize to the light.
Think about it, if you are a going inside a dark home with bad guys you are going to bring light into the situation so you can know where they are at. Why? to confront them. The light gives you the ability to do that.
As Christians we should not be accommodating to deception. Darkness is symbolic of deception. We are to bring the light into the midst of deception. We are to expose deception. We are to call it what it is. We are tor bring truth in the midst of deception. Too many Christians have a false concept that we are to make deception feel okay. We are to ‘pamper’ deception. That is not what the prophets of Old, Jesus, or the disciples did. They confronted it. That is not what God does.
As Christians we are to confront deception, lies, tactics of Satan. We are to bring Jesus , the Word of God into every realm of darkness. How we do that is another topic. At times it is done very calmly, other times very direct, other times we do not do it on our own. Again that is another topic. We first must learn that we are never to embrace darkness, but confront it.
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. …
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Christians need to stop hoping a pen light is going to pierce the darkness. If you have ever been in a totally dark room or cave you realize that a pen light has no value. You will trip all over yourself. It’s time to stop appeasing darkness. Instead this learn how to use the light of the Gospel. Some of us are made to just use flashlights, others, spotlights. We will explore this in our next post. Until then, be the LIGHT.
