Exodus 8:1-9:35
Exodus 8:5-8 The entire land was covered with frogs. This does not say the same thing happened with the magicians. It just says they made frogs come up out of the land. Was this demonic power, or just a great magic trick?
Here is what we know, that the land was covered with frogs from Aaron’s deed, and the magicians could not make the frogs go away.

Exodus 8:18-19 The fact that the magicians could not duplicate the gnats would make it appear that the previous deeds were tricks.

Exodus 4:1-5:23
Exodus 4:1-7 Moses had to know that God was giving him miraculous power
Exodus 4:8-17 Why in the world would Moses be concerned about how he speaks? We are just like Moses-God does something amazing in our life, and 5 minutes later, when things get tough we question if God is with us.
Exodus 4:21 God would not literally harden the heart of Pharaoh. What God would do is perform miracles that He foreknew Pharaoh would reject. Each miracle would be an opportunity for Pharaoh to let the people go or harden his heart.
Exodus 4:24-26 One of the hardest passages to understand since it is so brief, yet so direct. Here is what some have said about it:There may well have been a long debate in this household over whether their son would be circumcised or not. (God’s will was circumcision.) Perhaps Zipporah argued that the operation struck her as repulsive. Moses may have countered, "But God commanded that we must circumcise all of our male children." In order to keep the peace, however, Moses may have let the matter drop and risked disobeying the command of God. Zipporah jumped in.
Exodus 4:30 Moses performed the signs before Israel, however later on Israel gets angry at Moses and questions if God is with him.

Genesis 44:1-45:28
Genesis 44 It would appear that Joseph is being hateful to them. Was he? Or was he testing them? Just imagine the turmoil these men were in.
Genesis 45:5-8 Joseph says ‘don’t be angry with yourselves’. Joseph’s pure heart comes out loud and clear to his brothers. Joseph was able to see that ‘all things turn out for good for those who love God’.
Genesis 45:15 True forgiveness
Genesis 45:16 Pharaoh was delighted-this is the favor of God. Remember earlier it said that the Egyptians did not like the Hebrews.
Genesis 45:17-19 Abundant favor of God via the Pharaoh
Genesis 45:24 ‘Don’t quarrel’. Joseph knew the nature of the brothers.

Genesis 42:18-43:34
Genesis 42:24-25 Joseph began to weep, Joseph returned their money-this shows he had no grudges against his brothers.
Genesis 42:34 Reuben shows his pure heart
Genesis 43:14 ‘…if I must lose my children so be it.’ As much as Jacob loved his children, he knew and was willing to do the right thing even if it meant losing his two sons.

Genesis 39:1-41:16
Genesis 39:2-9 When we have the favor of God, we have the favor of man. We need to make we do not sabotage that favor by irresponsible behavior. Joseph behavior is an example fo us.
Genesis 39:7-18 There will always be individuals that will want to interfere with what Go is doing in our life-there will be people that want to take us down. There will always be temptations-we need to resist. God has better for us.
Genesis 39:19-23 When you have the favor of the Lord, evne when life is not fair, God will make it fair. He honors our faithfulness because He is faithful.
Genesis 40:8 Notice that Joseph know where the gift of interpretation came from.
Genesis 40:20-23 God confirms our gifting. He will reveal that we are led by Him.
Genesi 41:1 ‘Two years later’. God’s blessings will come, but sometimes they take time. Joseph was faithful during this ‘waiting period’.

January 18 2009 Devotion

I do a daily devotional with commentary for two individuals to help them be consistent in their Daily Devotional Reading. (It helps me to be faithful also.) Since I am doing it for them, I decided to start posting it on my blog also.

Feel free to read my comments and to add your own comments regarding my commentary.

I am using the NLT since I have read many other translations and have not read this one. Still believe NASB is one of the best translations regarding the translating of the Greek and Hebrew.

The devotionals will have a passage from the Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament.

Perspectives on Life

A good friend sent me an e-mail regarding Perspectives on Life. Too many times we think our life is so much worse than others. The truth is that there will always be people who are doing better than us and there will be people who are doing worse than us. Let’s choose to focus on how compared to most of the world, Americans have it made no matter how bad their situation may be. And as Christians, no matter how bad life may be, we have hope and promise of a glorious future.

I thought the e-mail was so good I put it on my Fairhaven House web site-check it out. www.fairhavenhouse.info/perspective.html
