No Safe Place To Hide

Dear Readers,

There is no safe place to hide…

NO SAFE PLACE TO HIDE-  Journal Entry, May, 2015

I’m just discovering, at age 71, that there is no safe place to hide.  If a tornado, or a tsunami, or lightning hits, if God decides it is time for you to be with Him, no matter where, when, or what you are doing, it’s final!

Recently a tornado storm raged through Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Missouri, dropping 51 funnel clouds!  Very few people died but the devastation was enormous.

One story that came out of our area really made me think a lot about running into a shelter!  A woman in the last squall went into her shelter where she thought she would be safe.  One tornado dropped seven inches of rain in her state, in one hour, which triggered flooding and waves of water across the plains.

Her refuge was an old well she had converted into a storm shelter.  The wave washed over her land and over her dugout where she drowned in her safe spot.  This tells me there is no such thing as a "Safe spot!"  We can be sitting in our livingroom, our car, our church, our school, anywhere, and as the woman discovered, there is no place to hide when it is your time.  The water came so quickly that there was only seconds to escape.  And, to be honest, it was God calling her home!

My daughter Shelley visits from Massachusetts every couple of years.  The last time she was here, while visiting with her big sister and her two nieces, the Bolivar City’s tornado sirens went off.  She freaked and shouted, "Shouldn’t we get in your shelter?"  They all ran to the center bathroom where she nervously commented, "I don’t feel very safe in here!  Don’t you have a better place?"

"Auntie, calm down!" her nieces told her, "These storms usually pass very quickly!  It will be all over in a few minutes!" the girls chuckled.

Severe storms have always been my greatest fear.  But I have discovered there is no safe place!  Why has it taken me so long to realize this?  Did God just open my eyes to my lack of faith and trust in Him?

Mark 4:40+41 says,  He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid?  Do you still have no faith?"  They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this?  Even the wind and the waves obey him!"  (NIV)

                             Love in Christ,   Claire xoxo
