Missouri or Bust

Dear Readers,

The next couple blogs are about our family’s trek to Missouri…

MISSOURI OR BUST- Journal Entry, May 26, 2006

I would like to write about what the Lord has recently done with my family…

My oldest daughter has been praying about relocating to Missouri for over a year.  After several months, she and her family put the idea away because of fatigue, and to be quite honest, they were scared.

But, last summer a trip out west revealed to them exactly where God wanted them to move!  They originally thought it would be where she grew up, which was Colorado Springs, Colorado but on their way home from a trip my daughter felt the pull of the Holy Spirit to go south to the Springfield, Mo. area.  The further south they drove, the stronger she felt the Spirit.

They returned home excited about moving, but the holidays, family pressure, and a recall to her husband’s union job, made them put the idea of relocation on hold.  Then, in January, my daughter heard from the Holy Spirit yet again in a message.  While in prayer one night she clearly heard, "THE TIME IS NOW!"  By morning she knew that the Lord wasn’t going to let this go.  Annie made a deal with God, "I’ll move forward again, and then I’ll pray for You to stop us if it is wrong for my family!" she asked the Lord.

Her first step was to call a local school teacher who had shown interest last fall in buying her home.  Very quickly, the Lord started to move!  The teacher came to look at her house and fell in love with it!  That very day they agreed on a selling price and immediately a deposit was put down.  Annie had also asked God to help her sell her travel trailer.  While the teacher was still looking at the house, a total stranger knocked on the front door and told my girl that they wanted to purchase her camper if they could agree on a price!

While all this was happening Cal and I were on vacation out west in our old motor home.  My daughter called us and asked me if we could swing south and stop in the Springfield, Missouri area to look at a few houses for her.  After looking at several homes which Cal didn’t recommend purchasing, my excited offspring asked if we could make one more stop at a "Dream House" she had fallen in love with on line several months earlier.  Even though it was overpriced for her budget, she wanted us to take a look anyway!   So we did!

As we approached this beautiful new cape style home on 10 acres, which was exactly what my daughter always wanted, we stopped to see if they were flexible on their price.  When we discovered they were agreeable, and Cal did a quick home inspection, we notified Annie.

To make a long story short, miracle after miracle kept happening: the teacher purchasing their existing home was also flexible about the closing date; the sellers in Missouri were willing to take a lower price; also the school in town had an aide for my deaf grandchild already in place for the start of the school year in the fall.  Even all the stuff they needed to get sold before moving, got sold!  The swing set, the pool table, the unwanted furniture, all went quickly in a last minute yard sale!

I’m not done!  Before they moved my granddaughter’s ophthalmologist in Massachusetts, notified all his patients that he was relocating his practice to the Springfield, Mo. area!  So endless miracles happened.

To rap up part one of, "Missouri or Bust" we put her family in a rental truck after closing on their Massachusett house and they headed off to Polk County, Mo. to close on their new home!

Everything fell into place perfectly, on God’s time, not her time!  When she shelfed the relocating idea, the Lord basically told her, "Oh no, I’m not finished with you yet!"

We must learn to hear God’s voice, and then trust in Him to put all the puzzle pieces together!

Dear Readers,

Short blog today.  But meaningful to me and hopefully other volunteers…

THE SENIORS- Journal Entry, Saturday before Easter, April 2015

As I passed out books, magazines, and stuffed animals at the hospital last week, I entered a senior woman’s room. So I asked this sweet lady, "Would you like a bunny or a teddy bear, hon?"  (Many elderly like to cuddle soft items.)

"Yes,yes, I would!"  She got so excited that I told her, "I will be right back in a couple minutes because I just gave away my last one!"  I quickly walked to the front entrance of the hospital, out to my car, and unloaded another handful of stuffed animals just given to me by my grandkids.

Quickly returning to her room, I held up one in each hand and said, "Ok, you can choose one!"  Again, she became so elated, that all she could say as she glanced back and forth at both of them was, "Um, um, um, um?"

Watching her, I caved in, teary eyed!  "Forget choosing sweetie!" I told her, "You can have both of them!"  The joy on her face was illuminating as she reached out for both animals, and immediately embraced them against her face.

Moments like these are what makes my work so special!  If you have ever considered volunteering for anything, don’t hesitate!  I’m convinced in my heart that God loves it, and will bless you for it!

Luke 6:31, "Do to others as you would have them do to you."  (NIV)

Jesus said this about the most important commandments, in Mark 12:30+31, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  The second is this, love your neighbor as yourself.  There is no commandment greater than these."  (NIV)
