God Gives Back

Dear Readers,

We are just back from vacation but I wanted to put in a short blog from my journal written while I was away.  It’s about financial miracles that happened in our family in the last month or so…

GOD GIVES BACK – March 2012

Unexpected financial gifts have come to our extended family in the last month.  I have to write them because we sometimes don’t notice how much God gives back to us.

My daughter Julie, who is struggling to graduate from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, and raising two teenagers on her own, received an unexpected scholarship.  Before she received it, she heard a message to tithe a sum of money to someone in need.  It was really difficult for her as she has limited income.  Right after she tithed what she felt the Lord was telling her, she received a surprise scholarship much larger than the amount of her tithe.

Then, my big sister, while we were visiting on vacation, also received an unexpected financial gift.  She is a giving person.  I know she gives to her children and grandchildren all the time when they need help, never expecting anything in return.  Her and hubby are faithful believers in Jesus Christ.

Because of many severe illnesses she drops into the senior donut hole early each year on her health insurance, and pays thousands in prescription costs.  While we visited her, she got a call saying she qualified for a grant for people on certain medications that will cover her prescription costs while she is in this donut hole.  (Many seniors know what I’m talking about).  This call was nothing short of miraculous!  My sis never expects anything to come back to her, but here it is, straight from God.

Oh how we underestimate God and His giving back to us.  Twice this month someone in our family was surprisingly rewarded financially and we got to share the joy with them.  Thank you Lord, for all the unexpected gifts You give to us.

It feels so good to be home!!

First Sunday Away

Dear Readers,

Here’s just a quick blog to keep in touch…

First Sunday Away –  March 2012

It’s Sunday and we’re on the road.  It doesn’t feel right not getting to church today.  But, we stopped at McDonald’s for lunch and C.J. pointed to an 18 wheeler off about 200′ from the parking lot.  "Look over there!  It’s a trucker’s church!"  (Highway Ministries-Transport for Christ).  So he went in for lunch, and I ran over to catch a moment with some other Christians.  It was wonderful.

We talked and prayed and shared stories.  I took a couple pictures of them and we all hugged and said good bye.  It was so exciting to get a bit of Sunday morning boost that I look forward to every weekend.  I told them about my prayer field and how I agonized recently in my prayers over why the Lord would allow some to be hit so hard by the recent tornadoes in my home state of Missouri, and how others were spared.  The pastor said to me, "We can’t know those things!"

I hugged them all when I left and ran out to my car to finish our trip, but not before I told the pastor’s wife, who had mentioned to me how she wonders what will happen to her years of journals after she dies.  "You have to share your stories!" I told her.  "We don’t have much time left.  You have to share them now!"

I’m amazed at how these important little moments happen in life.  I’ll look back on this special seconds in time and wonder why this chance meeting happened to me.

Back at the car C.J. said to me, "What a unique church.  They reach out to people that can’t be reached under normal conditions.  I was a trucker once.  I know what it is to be in the middle of nowhere, to be away from your loved ones, and then all of a sudden you look up and there sits a church!  A place of refuge to spend your time.  Sometimes the loneliness on the road is brutal.  What an awesome ministry!"

As we drove away I looked back knowing I would never see those people again, only in heaven.  What a special unexpected memory in my life!
