What is a Slug?

It is an ugly, slimy creature. Okay joking. A slug is a great thing for you at times in regards to SEO, Search Engine Optimization, and have more user friendly URLs.

Whenever you create a new page or new post, our system creates an URL called a Permalink. Normally the URL includes the title of the page or post. Many times that may be fine, but you may want a more customized URL or you want words in your URL that may be picked up by the search engines.

Here is an Example Concerning Slugs and Posts
You have a post titled What We Did While  in Hawaii. Your standard URL would be:
http://www.christianblogsites.net/yourusername/2015/10/19/what-we-did-while-in-Hawaii

You choose to make a slug for this post. Your slug is skydiving-in-Hawaii. This would make your post URL
http://www.christianblogsites.net/yourusername/2015/10/19/skydiving-in-Hawaii

You choose to make a slug for this post. Your slug is Hawaii. This would make your post URL
http://www.christianblogsites.net/yourusername/2015/10/19/Hawaii

So in theory when a person searches the Internet for skydiving in Hawaii, or Hawaii your post is more likely to come up.
Now the odds are almost nothing compared to the thousands of other web pages with those phrases. But it is a start.
Where it helps is within our ChristianBlogSites Network. When other users are searching the CBS site your post is more likely to come up.

Here is an Example Concerning Slugs and Pages.
You have a blog page about you titled The Biography of Richard D. Dover. It’s standard permalink  would be:
http://www.christianblogsites.net/yourusername/the-biography-of-richard-d-dover

You make a slug of Richard Dover. Your URL would be:
http://www.christianblogsites.net/yourusername/richard-dover

If you do not see the slug option when posting an article or page, then you need to turn the feature on by going to the top right of your page and clicking on screen options:
