The Separated

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, II Cor 6:17

Christians are call to be “Separatists” or separated from the world and the things of the world. We are in the world but not of the world, why? Jesus told his own, Jhn 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. The world and the world system hated Jesus, to include the religious system of his day and it is no different today. A true christian can expect opposition from the world and its system.

As we look carefully at our values and the worlds, we see a vast difference. Our money says “in God we trust” while WE do, the world at large DOES NOT. Instead they invest their money in wall street, God tells his people, Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. So which investment bears witness to trusting in God? A rich young ruler came to Jesus one day saying Luk 18:18 Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus told him Luk 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. How many would do that today? Yes the god of mammon is ruling the world, everyone wants wealth, but the Bible says I Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Many people who have wealth do have many problems, and would trade that wealth for peace of mind, better health, or family relationships. The song says “money cant by me love” and its true. The love of God for his own is free to us, but costly to him who has everything.

And where does this world system have its roots?

We discover it is in Babylon.

As we study the scripture we discover Babylon has two faces. One is the face of commerce, the other is the face of religion. In the book of Revelation we see both being judged in chap 17 and 18. In Chap 18 we find a very interesting verse, here in the middle of the judgment that is coming upon commercial Babylon we read vs 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. This is interesting because we believe the church will not go through any part of the seven year tribulation period, so why is this verse here? And to whom does it pertain? We must keep two things in mind IT is in the book of Revelation written TO THE CHURCH concerning the things to come, for in chap 1 we read; Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: So it is written TO US for us to READ and understand, the things that will be happening on the earth as God brings his judgment. And we notice the admonition in Rev chap 18 is much like the one in II Cor 6:17 exhorting believers to be separate from the world system, why? Because ultimately that system will be judged and currently it is passing away oh so slowly. In I Cor 7:31 Paul tells the Corinthians And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. The word fashion means that which comprises the manner of life. The world system is going to be replaced, so keep a light touch. In other words here is the attitude we must have concerning this present world system; Paul writes I Cor 7:29-32 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: We are not to abuse this world for a couple of reasons: 1 it is passing away. But as we look around we see the progress that is being made in many different areas of life. We see electronic devices for communication, advances in medicine, many things to make live easier. Yet, it will all come to an end. 2 In Phil 3:20 we read For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, This is not our home, heaven is. And what is here that compares to what we have there?

We have seen the bumper sticker, “ He who has the most toys wins” Of course this is not true.

And then we see the decay of the institution on marriage by the gay community. Their values are not ours, and we feel as Lot vexed by their manner of life they want us to accept. If we don’t, we are bigoted, and racists. We are to tolerate their sinful behavior, but they will not tolerate our faith in Christ, and our adherence to the Bible. We see the murder of the unborn, and even the murder of those who have just come out of the womb, as a “woman’s choice” Maybe the woman should have used her “choice” in the beginning telling the man NO instead of yes.

We look at the elected officials and wonder who they represent. Many do not speak for me! In fact the cries of the people fall on deaf ears. In California Proposition 8, marriage is to be between a man and a woman, PASSED 3 TIMES, only to have the 9th circuit court shoot it down. The Supreme court refused to rule on the matter, and they let stand the ruling of the 9th circuit court which said it was “unconstitutional” to have marriage be between a man and woman only! This in effect took away the vote of the people, which the supreme court knows to be illegal. Laws cannot be legislated from the bench.

Our world system is slowing deteriorating, and we need not be part of it by holding on to it so tightly. We need to nurture the same spirit as Abraham had as we read in Hebrews 11:9-10 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. When we read of the new Jerusalem in Rev 21, and listen to the words of Paul II Cor 12:2,4 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. And we think of Peters words I Pet 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, our inheritance that is waiting for is will NOT fade away as the world we live in will. So what do we have that holds us here? Family? Pray for their conversion and they will be with you.

As we look at Lot coming out of Sodom just prior to its destruction, we are told to “Remember Lots wife” Why? She turned back to look at Sodom. It wasn’t just to see it destroyed but it was a longing look, as one would do when leaving a loved one for the last time. Is that who we are looking at this world? Looking BACK or are we looking FORWARD to our heavenly home? Many want to go to heaven………maybe not right now! Is that you?
