Heave Offering

Exodus 25:2 "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me a (heave) offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering."

This may seem like a very unusual topic to write about, but I can’t help myself tonight.  I feel like I had an "ah-hah" moment this morning, and I want to share it.  You will find this account diary-style, more than anything else.

Yesterday, as our pastor was preaching, she mentioned wave offerings and heave offerings.  She told us to look them up because it wasn’t a major part of her sermon.  I made a mental note and recalled wanting to study the different types of offerings a long time ago, but never did.  This morning, as I was reading Exodus, I happened upon…you guessed it:  Heave offerings!  I couldn’t find much information in my Bible about it; so I googled it and found a site containing a Jewish Encyclopedia.  It is definitely worth saving!

Proverbs 18:21

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.  Speak My WORD over yourselves AND your circumstances.  Speak My WILL, which IS My Word!  If they are not words of faith, it would be better that your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth.  Do not doubt Me; for with Me, ALL things are possible!  Declare My will for yourselves on earth, as it is established in Heaven.  Then stand, and watch the Salvation of the Lord!”

Sanctuary Of God

"Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?  Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people." (Psalm 77:13-14)

This morning I find myself almost speechless of human words.  The only thing that soothes my soul and gives me peace is to allow God’s word to speak for me in a different way today.  I know I am not alone when I must say, as Jesus did, "Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." (Luke 4:8)  "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live…" (Deut. 30:19)

Living Epistles

“Clearly, you are a letter from Christ prepared by us.  It is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God.  It is carved not on stone, but on human hearts.” (see 2 Cor. 3:3)

I was given the above title yesterday morning in an almost audible voice.  I knew it was a word for our local church; but more than that, the Body of Christ.  Please allow me to continue with the scripture: (Versus 4-6) “And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”

Spot or Blemish?

"That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."  Ephesians 5:27

I have a beautiful testimony to connect with this passage of scripture.  A brother in the Lord gave me permission to share it with you.  He called me one day last week to inform me his mother, who was in a convalescent home, was close to passing on.  His feelings were very mixed because of tense family relations throughout his childhood and married life.  I could hear the pain in his voice, and my spirit felt it.

I didn’t know where to start, but I said, "Let’s pray."  The Holy Spirit is so faithful to speak through us.  If we are willing to reach out to God’s creation, sinners and saints alike, he backs us up! (Mark 13:11)
